DOTS (Detection on the Spot) - in development
Researchers at Harvard have created a small relatively inexpensive device that can detect gluten and multiple allergens at levels well below current methods.  They have also designed the product so that results can be easily uploaded and shared with other consumers.  The iEAT device detects gluten at 0.1 ppm!  Here is news coverage on the topic:  Keychain detector catches food allergens before it’s too late and the original study: Integrated Magneto-Chemical Sensor For On-Site Food Allergen Detection. It is still in development and there's no word yet on when it will be available.  The company developing it is DOTS Technology Corp.  Here is their website: www.dotscorp.com/  They appear to be preparing to market it.
