Nima Gluten Sensor: An evaluation by the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program at the University of Nebraska has concluded that the Nima handheld portable gluten sensor performed reliably in the detection of gluten in foods having ≥20 ppm of added gluten. Lentils are often contaminated - help is on the way: It is not uncommon to find stray wheat or barley grain in lentils. GlutenFreeWatchDog has issued a reminder to always sort through and thoroughly wash lentils. The good news is that, according to Avena Foods, purity-protocol lentils should be available soon.
Imaware home test kit for Celiac Disease: There is a new home test kit called Imaware. Developed in conjunction with two Celiac experts, the test looks for 4 antibodies (tTG-IgA, tTG-IgG, DGP-IgA and DGP-IgG) at the relatively modest cost of $99. It could be used as part of diagnosis and could also be used for monitoring.
